12 THINGS YOU ABSOULTELY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT EXAMS

1. What do I wear for exams?

You should be in full winter uniform.

 

2. Do I have homeroom during exam week?

We do not have homeroom during exam week.  You should report directly to the classroom of your exam.

 

3. Do the exam periods happen in class order during the week?

NO the exams are given based on the volume of students taking exams.  Periods that have lunches happen at the end of the week.  On Tuesday, period 1 and period 2 exams are given.  On Wednesday, Period 7 and 8 exams are given.  On Thursday, periods 3 and 4 exams are given.  On Friday, period 5 and 6 exams are given.

 

4. Can I be absent and miss an exam?

If you are sick and need to miss your exam, you must see a doctor and have a doctor’s note documenting your absence.  When you have a doctor’s note you can make up and exam.  If you are absent and do not have a doctor’s note, you will receive a zero on the exam.  You must call in to the attendance officer during exam week if you are going to be absent.

 

5. If I missed my exam and I have permission to make up the exam, when do I make up the exam?

We are able to schedule exams during the exam week at many different times.  You will contact your guidance counselor and he or she can help you arrange a make-up time for the exam.  Here are some of the options for a make-up exams:

  • A period when you do not have an already scheduled exam. For instance, your lunch period or a physical education period.
  • All exam days have a possible make-up exam slot at 12:50. Exam days have 2:30 bussing and an exam can be made up at 12:50
  • Saturday Morning is a makeup exam day. You can make up 2 exams on this day.  You will come to school at 8:30 am in uniform prepared for your exam.

 

6. Do I have to come to school when I do not have an exam?

You only have to be in school for your exam periods.  You may leave after a first period exam or come in late for a second period exam as you schedule dictates.  You must report directly to your room and be on time.  You will be marked tardy if you are late to your class for the exam.  If you are more than 10 minutes late, you may not be able to sit for your exam.  Be very careful of your schedule and do not miss an exam.

 

7. Is there busing during exam week?

There is normal full day bussing during exam week.  The busses will depart from school at 2:30.  If you are in school and do not have an exam you are welcome to visit your locker but you can not be in the hallway or a classroom for an extended time.  The library and cafeteria will be available for student study and work.  You may not be in the cafeteria when the grammar school is at lunch.

 

8. Is the cafeteria serving lunches during exam week?

No the cafeteria is not serving lunches to the high school during exam week.  Make A Wish cub will be selling bagels and snacks to support their group.  You are welcome to brown bag lunch and eat in the cafeteria.  If you choose to go into town during your free time, you must manage your time.  You are responsible to be back in time to make your bus.  The bus will not wait for you.

 

9. Where can I go when I am in school and not taking an exam?

You must be in the cafeteria, library, or visiting guidance when you are not in school.  You may visit your locker but your time in the hallway needs to be between exams and brief.  When in the library it is a time for quiet work and study.

 

10. Who gives me my exam, how long is it and where do I take my exam?

Your exam is proctored by your classroom teacher.   Your exam will be in the room in which you normally take your class.  All exams are 90 minutes.  You have time before the exam for teachers to take attendance and complete a book check.  You will have time to gather your thoughts before the exam begins.

 

11. How does my mid-term exam count in my grade?

Your mid-term exam will be listed separately on your report card.  Your exam will be 20% of your semester average.  Semester 1 average is calculated by 40% of your Marking period 1 grade plus 40% of your Marking Period 2 Grade plus 20% of your exam grade.

 

12. Am I able to see my graded exam?

Exams can be used by the teachers as a teaching tool following the exam.  They may hand out exams for you to review in class or review the concepts where students struggled in general.  Exams may not be handed out and sent home.  If you are interested in seeing your completed exam, please see your teacher and they will arrange a time in their after school hours or in the guidance suite for you to review your exam.
